To our fitness family
I want you to know that we’re going to need you in the upcoming months. In these days of social isolation, one of the things that’s hard to wrap our arms around is a lost sense of belonging, of family, and of community. Many of us are social creatures, and for us, our fitness center plays a role in our routines which we are aching to return to. There’s no doubt you also figure heavily into our overall health and well being, and keeping our immune systems at the top of their game, but I’ve come to realize over these last several weeks that there is something much more intangible to what you offer. We’re missing the true fellowship that a fitness club brings to our lives.
One of the things that is so amazing about being in a community of fitness-minded people, be it a CrossFit affiliate or a local fitness center tribe, is that we have a shared experience to anchor to, outside of what is happening in the world. There are no disagreements about policies or any political debates, there is just space to move, breathe, and give time to ourselves, together.
At the apex of this unprecedented period, your ability to quickly adapt and continue to support your members with online classes and at-home workouts during this crisis is commendable. You’ve found a way to keep us connected, and rest assured we’ll need you there to help us come together again with our fitness family as we emerge into the new “normal”.
I encourage you to embrace the communities of humans you have created, and to prepare yourselves to welcome them back. I stand firmly in the footing that you have an important role to play when this is done, and I have such respect and admiration for the part that you play both in my life, and those of your members. Reconnecting with your community is of utmost importance. Stay strong for us, for our health, and for our community.
We miss you, and we can’t wait for your doors to open up again.
